Alternately titled: How the hell is she 1 already!?!?
I have so many [mixed] emotions about this milestone. I am so excited we get to celebrate Avery’s birthday with family and friends. She is going to have the best time. But…she’s 1. My baby (Can I still call her that? Or is she a “toddler” now?!) that I just brought home from the hospital! At least, that’s how it feels. Since I remember a shocking amount from that day. I have yet to decide if that is a good thing or not.
April 12, 2012. This would be the second day we try to have this baby. The day before we are supposed to go in to be induced. But, they had no room at the inn. Who knew the maternity ward could stop taking new patients so early in the day? (We would later find out that the days surrounding Avery’s birth were hella busy in the newborn room.) So the 12th it is! They were able to get us in that morning, thankfully. I don’t think I could have waited another day. I was bursting with excitement!
We got the ball rolling pretty quick. Induced me, broke my water, fluids, the whole nine. Unfortunately for me, I had to wait some time before giving me the epidural. The contractions were awful. And I guess the early ones were like pretend contractions. I am so not good at this making/delivering babies thing. After I got the good stuff, things got better. Meaning: I felt nothing. It was glorious. I was even able to nap!
I’ll spare you the detailed details, but 12 hours (not too shabby for a first-born) later I was exhausted, but she was here! My dream come true, in my arms. I’m not sure how my heart didn’t burst with how full it felt.
The year flew by, but that’s how it’s supposed to be. So I’ve heard. S many “firsts” and new experiences. Watching her grow, and begging her to slow down. I wouldn’t trade this in for anything in the world.
We started celebrating Birthday Weekend last night. We took a trip to the Mall of America. We had dinner at Famous Dave’s. Baby’s first BBQ! She gobbled everything up. Except for the cole slaw. Just like Daddy.
Then we went to the Build-A-Bear Workshop and made Avery a bear. As you can see, she LOVED it.
We named her new BFF Peanut. She wouldn’t give the bear up. It was so adorable.
We have a busy rest of the Birthday Weekend. I hope I will have time to post again sooner than later!
Happy Birthday Avery. I love you more than you will ever know.
