I have this bad habit of taking vacations when I am 10-11 weeks pregnant. When I was pregnant with Avery we went to Vegas when I was 10 weeks. Vegas is no place for a pregnant woman. Especially one who loves the smell [taste] of fruity drinks. We did save a ton of money not buying alcohol though.
This time was equally as difficult. Because we has to take a toddler on a 3 hour flight. And I couldn’t have a beer. Torture!! Seriously, travel day is hard enough for me. And then the added stress of Avery. Poor Jeremy.
We went to Arizona to visit Jeremy’s dad, Jim and his lady friend, Nancy. They are snowbirds and decided they didn’t want to come back to the tundra for Christmas. Can’t blame them!
We had a 9 am flight, so we were at the airport a little after 7. Check in went smooth. Delta robbed us of our $50 to check our luggage and we were on our way to the dreaded security line.
The line was as gross as to be expected. I figured we had about an hour wait. Which is cool because Avery was squirmy and hates being in her stroller when it is not moving. I remembered my friend telling me about a “family lane” in the security line. I didn’t see one, so I went to ask one of the security guys. He pulled us out of line and said they were opening a new lane and ushered us right in. Score! The guy in front of us was like, I want to travel with them. Security line took 1.7 minutes. So awesome!
Next we went in search of some breakfast. And then had a little less than an hour to kill before we could board the plane. Which was basically letting Avery run around and keeping her from throwing a tantrum.
We boarded, no issue. We strapped her in. Ready for takeoff!
She was pretty good most of the flight. We kept shoving her face with fruit snacks. That helps.
I really liked watching the map. And seeing the plane get farther and farther from Minneapolis.
And of course she fell asleep 10 minutes before landing. It would become a theme for the week. Punk.
Avery did get crabby a few times. It stressed me out. But at the end of the flight the people around us congratulated her on a good first plane ride. So that made me feel much better.
We were all thrilled to get the heck off the plane. Jim and Nancy were there right away to pick us up. And we headed straight for In and Out for some burgers. Because, yum. I devoured that burger like I haven’t eaten in days. It was Jeremy’s first time there. And he was not disappointed. A great start to our vacation!
We went to the house to get settled in. And got to spend some time outside. On the patio. Without getting frostbite.
