Whew! This weekend was so busy! Jeremy took off Friday and the following Monday, so he was home with us for 4 days! Avery loved that. We decided to treat the weekend as a mini-staycation.
Friday we took Avery to the Minnesota Children’s Museum. And she pretty much had the best time ever.
It wasn’t too busy and there weren’t too many “big kids” there to run her down. Perfect for our first trip!
We went straight to the toddler area. And she managed to find the reading nook right away. Like she has some sort of GPS for books.
We were able to get her out of there and play on some of the other stuff. She went down the slide all by herself for the first time. And looked terrified. But she kept going back for more, so it must have been at least a little fun.
After we explored the toddler room, we went to the dinosaur exhibit. I’m sure I’ve mentioned before, but Avery loves dinosaurs. She loves playing with them, reading about them, watching shows about them, and pretending to be one. We knew this room would be a slam dunk.
They have all sorts of activities in the dino exhibit. And things to play with. Like these giant eggs.
I’m guessing there were about a dozen of these eggs. And they were a hot commodity. Kids were hording these things! I overheard one kid say to his mom, “Mom, you need to watch my egg. And don’t let anyone take it! I mean it!” I was shocked when Avery found one. She was proudly carrying it around. Then we went to a different section of the room and she put it down. And it was gone in seconds. She eventually found another one and was walking around saying, “Hide. Hide.” We are clearly going to have problems with sharing when little sister comes.
Before we left we made sure to get a family membership. It’s such a good deal and She will love coming back and exploring all the different exhibits we didn’t get to.
Friday night I met up with a few MN Bloggers for happy hour at Psycho Suzi’s. Happy hour being unlimited Shirley Temples for this girl. It was a lot of fun, I got to meet a few new bloggers and stayed out too late. So a good Friday night!
Saturday we were on a mission to find Jeremy some new running shoes. He’s doing his second triathlon this summer and his old shoes were not going to hold up. We went to the mall (not The Mall. We did that the next day) and walked around. After a busy day running around, my body was feeling it. And I needed to rest.
Sunday we went to the Mall of America to get Jeremy’s shoes. If we couldn’t find them there, they weren’t going to be any. Thankfully we finally found his size. And we walked around a little. We went to Nordstrom Rack and I found a cute little pair of purple Keens for Avery. In the correct next size up and all. Half-priced! It was clearly meant to be, so I bought them. Now we just need some nice weather…
We went to JoAnns to get me some fabric. I had an apron making class the next day. Which got cancelled 30 minutes after I bought all of my supplies. Annoying. And it is my second class in a row that has been cancelled. So I’m officially done with trying to take any more classes with them. Any recommendations for other places that offer sewing classes?
I ended the night live tweeting the Oscars. Which was fun. I love reading everyone’s opinions of dresses, winners, losers, all that stuff. Twitter was very boring the next day.
Monday we decided to visit the Minnesota Zoo. They have an awesome promotion right now. If you bring in an old cell phone to recycle, you get a free admittance to the zoo! Jeremy found 2 old phones lying around and kids under 3 are free. So we had to pay for parking. Bam. $7 for the 3 of us! Love that price!
It was so much fun to watch Avery recognize all the animals. She really loved looking at all the fish.
She was in awe of the sharks in the bigger tanks. And she kept wanting to go back to look at the big boa constrictor. She likes the strangest things sometimes.
On our way out we stopped to see the penguins. I could watch these guys all day.
All the way home she kept telling us the different animals she saw. So I’m going to say she had a great time. We are planning on bringing her back for her birthday next month. They will have the baby farm animals out then and I think Avery will love that.
After all that business, I just want to lay on the couch for a week!
Hope you all had a great one!
