My favorite time of the year is upon us! I was lucky enough to join some other wonderful Minnesota bloggers for a fun preview day at the fair! We got to try some new food and talk shopping. My kind of day!
Like always, there are so many delicious food options this year!
It is too hard to pick a favorite. Because I honestly liked everything I tried! It was all just too good.
The Cheesy French Onion Monkey Bread was the most surprising. Described as a, “savory, pull-apart artisan bread loaf filled with caramelized onions, cheese and beef broth, then baked in a wood-fired oven” did not appeal to me. I’m not an onion fan. But I tried it. And, DAMN. It was so freaking good. Like it needs to be available to me all winter. You can find this at the Blue Moon Dine-In Theater.
Next, we tried the Grilled Cheese Bites from O’Gara’s at the Fair. They always have a fantastic food selection. And these bites were no exception. They start by mixing white cheddar cheese with beer batter. Then fry it up and serve it with a bloody mary marinara sauce. I want that sauce on everything. I hope they decide to sell it. It was so delicious. This one will be a crowd pleaser. I can see my girls stealing it and eating all of them!
Minnesnowii Shaved Ice is one of our favorite stops at the fair. This year they are introducing a new flavor just for the fair! Maple Bacon Shaved Ice will have a maple syrup drizzle on top and sprinkled with bacon bits. It was tasty, but a little too much for me. They are also offering a new topping of 100% sweetened condensed milk on any of their flavors. I tried the strawberry and orange with the drizzle. Big thumbs up!
The Gass Station Grill is reworking the corn dog this year. The Minnesota Corn Dog is ground sausage with blueberries, apples, wild rice, maple syrup, and cayenne dipped in batter and deep-fried. It sounds a little odd, but the flavors all blend together so well. I definitely recommend trying this one!
French Meadow Bakery and Cafe is serving up a delicious Rustic Beef Pastry. It is made up of Moroccan-spiced, grass-fed beef, baby spinach, and creamy goat cheese on top of a flaky butter crust. I still have dreams about this crust. I shamelessly took seconds of this. So delicious.
Tot Boss is a new vendor at the fair this year. I feel like this was a cheat for me, since I have been enjoying their food truck for a while now. They are one of my favorites. We got to try the Loaded Tots and the Tater Tot Nachos. YUM. If you find yourself wanting something really unique, go for the Poutine Tots. My favorite.
Stop by tomorrow for my shopping guide! I will have some fun new vendors to talk about!
